P.E.I. psychiatrist Dr. Arvind Singh has been reprimanded after a complaint that he administered electroconvulsive therapy to a patient without consent.

In the agreed statement of facts, the patient and his wife said they felt pressured to agree to Singh’s recommendation. The patient’s symptoms did not significantly improve and just days after his last ECT treatment he returned to the emergency department at the Prince County Hospital where he was seen by a different psychiatrist.

The boy was possibly harmed when Singh made physical contact during an office appointment in which the boy became agitated.
