Unless he has a major setback before Sunday\u0027s game in Calgary (7 p.m.), Ottawa Redblacks defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin IV will play.
There was a big scare near the end of Thursday’s practice when Mauldin, the Canadian Football League’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2022, let out a couple of yelps as he rolled to the ground in obvious pain. It was listed as a foot injury. On Saturday, in his team’s walkthrough at TD Place before getting on a plane and heading west, Mauldin took first-team reps. He’s listed on the depth chart as the starter, with “game-time decision” beside his name.
“We came out strong, but didn’t finish in the red zone,” Ottawa receiver Nate Behar said. “We know what to expect. They’re going to play man coverage, they’re going to challenge us.”Against Ottawa in Game 2, the Stampeders had 110 yards rushing, including 102 by Dedrick Mills. Calgary QB Jake Maier had 329 yards passing.
“You have to give Calgary credit. It’s a good defence,” Redblacks defensive backs coach Jykine Bradley said. “We’re in the film room, figuring out how they beat us. But we also focus on ourselves. We’ll see what we have to do better.”
