He was armed with a pellet gun that looked like a semi-automatic handgun during the Tuesday evening burglary and assaults, prosecutors said.
Officers shot a burglary suspect while the suspect was fleeing the Manheim, Lancaster County scene on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2024, police said. Christopher Rivera, 36, of Middletown, was charged on Thursday with robbery, rape and sexual assault in connection to a Tuesday burglary that ended with police shooting him in Manheim, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.
One of the officers shot Rivera with their service weapon while Rivera continued to flee with the gun in hand. The weapon was later found to be a pellet gun that looked like a semi-automatic handgun, prosecutors said. Two Calm Spa employees later told police that Rivera entered the business that night and pulled out the pellet gun when he was told the spa was closed. He pointed the gun at one of the employees and demanded money, prosecutors said.
The district attorney’s office said investigators reviewed video footage that showed Rivera pointing the gun at the employees as he led them into the massage room. Additional footage showed him running out the business’s back door as police came in through the front.
