A group opposed to the building of a crematorium on the Country Haven Funeral Home property on Country Road in Corner Brook is taking their fight to the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador. – SaltWire Network File PhotoCORNER BROOK, N.L. — The fight by Corner Brook residents against a crematorium being located in their neighbourhood moved to the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador on Thursday, March 10.
After having their appeal of the city’s November 2022 decision to issue a building permit to Country Haven Funeral Home for Phase 1 development, site services and rock pad for a crematorium at its Country Road location denied by the Western Regional Appeal Board in February, the Concerned Citizens Against Crematorium in Any Neighbourhood group filed an appeal with the Supreme Court.
The matter, which lists Country Road residents Cathy Peddle and Kelly Hiscock as appellants, will be heard on Nov. 14. Leading up to the hearing, the group’s lawyer has until Sept. 29 to file a brief on their behalf and the city has until Oct. 31 to file its response.
