Stan MacPherson and Shawn Murphy, who sit on the board, made a presentation to city council on Feb. 27 asking the city for $1 million, spread over the next two years.in the Dominion Building. However, it has come at a cost.“As you know, this was a major infrastructure project for Charlottetown," Murphy said in an interview with SaltWire Network at the library on March 6. “There were some cost overruns, which is not unexpected in today’s environment.

When you consider where the library is located and who the principal beneficiary is in terms of the municipality, the city of Charlottetown is clearly that."MacPherson attributed the cost overruns to the war in Ukraine, which led to record fuel prices and increased cost of materials, as well COVID-19’s impact on supply chain issues and the cost of supplies.

MacPherson also pointed out that the province pays almost the entire bill to run the library. The city’s contribution to the daily operations is the cost of one full-time salary.
