THUNDER BAY -- A special air-quality statement has been issued for Northwestern Ontario, due mainly to smoke from wildfires burning throughout the region and beyond.
The smoke is expected to affect the area on Friday morning and may persist into the weekend for some areas. They warn that wildfire smoke can be harmful to people's health, even at low concentrations, adding people who work outdoors are at higher risk of experiencing the health effects of the smoke. Anyone with an HVAC system at home should use the highest-rated MERV filter and anyone spending time outdoors might consider using a well-fitted respirator-type mask.
