Kirsten Gillibrand announced on August 28th that she was ending her campaign. She is the sixth major candidate to drop out of the primary race. Ms Gillibrand’s bid started well with a prime-time interview by Stephen Colbert, a late-night TV host. More than any other candidate, the senator from New York focussed her campaign around issues relating to women’s equality. But it never really took off.
