Dolly Parton is here, and so is Timothée Chalamet!
November, or as I prefer to call it: “The Calm Before the Swarm.” Sure, the holiday tunes have only just started playing and the tacky decorations are slowly snaking their way into view, but you’re still a comfortable distance from awkward staff parties, familial obligations and credit card debt. Celebrate this important time!
You can buy that sun lamp, stock up on vitamin D and ready yourself for the Night King and his winter horde, or maybe you can get in those last peaceful workouts before all of the resolution-ers stink up the gym with their toxic masculinity. You could take a few naps at work—under your desk, or in the maintenance closet or get your flu shot and bring it up in every single conversation between now and the end of the month. You’re healthy and it’s November! Treat yo’self.
But, seriously, as the skies turn grey and the nights grow long, what better way to pass the time than to throw on the flannels and binge-watch? I know that’s why you’re really here. You want to know what’s hot and easily accessible, which was once me in my twenties, but is now the fantastic content coming to Netflix Canada in November.
Netflix’s generally excellent Queer Eye reboot continues to impress, with our favourite queeroes heading to Japan to spread their love, light, and fashion tips to folks on the other side of the globe. My default mode is cynicism, and even I find the show’s mix of self-improvement and social issues well-executed, with just the right amount of good ol’ fashioned cry porn thrown in. Check it out, grab the tissues.
I’ve been giving you lots of warm fuzzies this month, but it’s time to talk about crime, folks. Organized crime. The mob, specifically. Martin Scorsese makes his streaming directorial debut with this Netflix Original film starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci about the life of career hitman Frank Sheeran and his role in the disappearance of labor leader Jimmy Hoffa.
