Delta Police and Richmond RCMP are concerned about a possible crime trend emerging.

Over the past year, officers in both jurisdictions have been called out to several robberies, and are concerned a crime trend may be emerging.“It appears someone is targeting these victims for cryptocurrency, and we believe this public warning is necessary in the interest of public safety,” said Staff Sgt. Gene Hsieh, a spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP Major Crime Unit, in a statement Wednesday.

Once let inside the home, the suspects rob the victims of information that gives access to their cryptocurrency accounts, according to police. • If a delivery person, or a person claiming to be of authority, attends your home unexpectedly, do not let them inside. Ask them to leave the package outside, or make a call to their company or agency to confirm their identity.• Keep your valuables and financial information in a safe location, like a safety deposit box at a financial institution.
