The Met Office has extended an amber cold weather alert in a rare move that signals Yorkshire will have to contend with wintery temperatures for a few more days.
Frost nights, icy conditions, and some fog are the norm at level three, and people will be encouraged to stay warm, drive carefully, and keep an eye on vulnerable, elderly and sick people. Persistent cold temperatures can be lethal for people with pre-existing conditions. Extending the cold weather alert, Mirror Online reports that Dr Agostinho Sousa, head of extreme events and health protection at UKHSA, said: "Cold weather can have a serious impact on health, particularly older people and those with pre-existing health conditions, as it increases the risks of heart attacks, strokes and chest infections.
Friday's weather in Yorkshire is set to mirror that weather warning. A spokesperson for the Met Office siad: "Still a chance of a few coastal showers during the morning, otherwise a fine, dry day with mainly light winds and increasing amounts of sunshine for many areas. Maximum temperature 7 °C."
