Longshore workers are voting on whether to ratify a new labour deal, which could bring a definitive end to their weeks-old strike or kick-off a new wave of labour uncertainty at ports in B.C. Voting on the four-year deal by members of the ILWU Canada union started Thursday morning and runs until 6 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday. Results are expected either late night Friday or early Saturday.
The B.C. Maritime Employers Association, which represents port businesses in the labour talks, has already ratified the pact, which includes a 19.2 per cent pay hike over four years, a 3.1 per cent signing bonus and a 18.5 per cent increase in retirement payments.
