Opinion: Expect the NDP to want legislation adding new ridings before calling the next general election
The decision left largely untouched three seats held by the Liberals, two by the New Democrats and one by the new leader of the B.C. Conservatives, John Rustad.

The political balance of power across all those areas is 30 New Democrats, 9 B.C. Liberals, greater than three to one. Time was when Liberals tended to win in the fastest-growing communities. Time was when electoral redistribution added seats in B.C. Liberal territory.
On the existing boundaries, the Liberals faced an uphill fight. Adding the new seats, five of the six being in NDP territory, would only make the climb that much steeper.
