In the wake of ongoing protests against police violence and systemic racism, the University of Florida is putting an end to its 'Gator Bait' chant at sporting events due to the racist history behind the phrase by MattRyanPerez

Wright told The Gainesville Sun, “It’s not about what happened way back in the past. How about our culture." He added, “I created something for us. It’s a college football thing. It’s not a racist thing, It’s about us, the Gator Nation. And I’m Black.
