The UK could be moving towards a de facto general strike as union leaders talk up the possibility of co-ordinated action in 2023.

Railway union the RMT announced that thousands of cleaners would launch their first national strike starting on December 30.on Thursday that the FBU “will talk to other unions” about the potential for co-ordinated action if a walkout does go ahead.

Asked about the prospect of a de facto general strike, new general secretary of the TUC Paul Nowak told: “Our unions will be continuing to talk into the new year about how we best support and coordinate unions that are taking strike action.Also known as a national strike, a general strike is when a substantial proportion of workers across multiple sectors refuse to go to work until their demands on pay and conditions are met.

1.7 million people from sectors including transport, heavy industry, printing, fuel and dock workers joined the strike in solidarity with the miners.
