Jody Thomas testified to a Commons committee that the problem is growing, with adversaries finding innovative ways to meddle.

Tupper confirmed that the RCMP does not have any criminal investigations stemming from the 2019 or 2021 elections.

The committee also heard from members of the Security and Intelligence Threats to Elections Taskforce . That taskforce is designed to collect information during elections about possible foreign interference and report it to a panel of senior bureaucrats, who then decided on whether or not to go public.

“It could be a foreign entity that is using proxies in different ways to amplify the content, but you need to find the link back to a foreign entity that’s directing that,” she said.Article content
