'But I hope I never, ever get discouraged by that endless learning curve.'

Lemme preface this take by telling you I love Shakespeare. If you’re looking for proud anti-intellectualism, get thee to the nearest ivermectin clinic. I’ve watched stage productions of Shakespeare and loved them. I watched not one but TWO different film adaptations of “Richard III” and loved both of them. I majored in English and was forced to study “Hamlet,” “The Merchant of Venice,” “King Lear,” “Othello,” “Romeo and Juliet” and “Macbeth.” I loved all that too.

For the sake of topicality, lemme use “Macbeth” as an example. “The Tragedy of Macbeth” is currently in theaters and all but certain to show up on your radar once the Oscar nominations hit. The director is Joel Coen, who alongside hisis one of my favorite filmmakers. It stars Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand as the headliners, and the bench after those two is as deep as it is wide.

I had the advantage of having read “Macbeth” a couple decades prior. I knew the basics: Lady Macbeth convinces her hubby to stage a coup, kill the king, and then the two of them suffer terrible consequences for it. I was ready. I’m a f—king published novelist, dammit. I know words. I can follow along to the densest iambic pentameter you can throw at me.
