A man called 911 at 5:43 p.m. on May 7 and reported that people were stealing cars and had guns, according to a police event report. Officers arriving at the scene learned that the suspects attempted to steal a Kia in an apartment parking lot but failed.
They fled in the Nissan Altima in which they arrived. Officers learned the temporary tag on the fleeing car, captured by an automated license plate reader, belonged on a different vehicle.A Kia Sportage parked in a lot on Elmwood Avenue near Madison Avenue was stolen sometime between 7 p.m. and 11:07 p.m. on May 7, according to a police event report.A resident of an apartment on Hilliard near Northland Avenue at 7:41 a.m.
