Nearly one hundred people participated in the Coldest Night of the Year walk last Saturday. Brendyn CreamerTRURO, N.S. — Though there have certainly been colder nights than Feb. 25, the chilly weather still made it a perfect time for community members to raise money and awareness in hopes of keeping Truro residents housed.yearly fundraiser. Many were split up into self-devised teams, with some having raised over $3,000 before the walk took place.Two walkers holding up signs.

“Anything in the past was meant to go towards shelter operations, but this year it’s going towards eviction prevention and shelter aversion measures,” said McNair. “We help folks in the community with rent, deposits.”“Sometimes folks just need help with utilities, arrears, things like that.” . Three groups from the team, which tops league standings, collectively raised $3,635 for the Coldest Night of the Year.“We just wanted to get out and support the community, help out for a great cause, and teach our kids important to give back,” said Porter. “This is a good cause for them. They understand and have that awareness.”

“One of the mothers brought it to my attention, and I thought it was great. It’s a great thing to be a part of. Raising money for a good cause.”“I think it’s a good cause,” said Singer. “I think it’s good for the team to do it.”At the registration booth were several notable municipal figures, including Town of Truro Coun. Cathy Hinton, who has helped with the event for the past nine years.
