New newspaper on the block expanded circulation by buying the older Vancouver World.

The purchase price was $475,000.

“We do not want to be classed in the same 10-acre field with a paper which has the record and affiliations of The Vancouver World,” said The Sun on March 4, 1912. It played its independence up with snappy mottoes like “The Paper that Prints the Facts,” “The People’s Paper,” and “Clean, Fair, Accurate, Sincere.”Article content

In 1909 the paper announced plans to build Vancouver’s tallest building, the World Tower, at the southeast corner of Pender and Beatty streets. The 17-storey structure was opened in 1912 and is still a Vancouver landmark, now known as the Sun Tower.Article content
