Read about cartoons from a California-based artist, who perfectly describes what life is like when the entire family is stuck under one roof.
Life in lockdown has been strange for families across America. Many people are looking for any humor they can find in these unprecedented times—including cartoonist and mom of two Adrienne Hedger.
The mom has been on lockdown with her husband, Jack, and two teenage daughters, Kate, 16, and Claire, 14 in San Clemente, California. She’s taken to making cartoons of the strange situations she’s been finding herself in at home with her family, and moms across the globe, regardless of their kids’ ages, can relate.
In one cartoon, she jokes about the never-ending cycle that involves accidentally touching your face and then immediately washing your hands, while in another, she details how handwashing can be fun—but only the first few times.
According to Hedger, we’re all in the same boat, and it’s okay if quarantine looks different than our expectations. When lockdown began, she thought she might be able to keep her kids to their regular schedules. “I’m a rule follower, so I thought ‘This sounds great!’ “But Claire has been going to bed at 1 a.m. and waking up at 11. It’s not what people were advising, but she’s getting the work done and turning it in on time.
Lockdown may look very different from what we all imagined—but that’s okay! Give yourself grace because, at the end of the day, we’re all doing the best we can. When you find it’s all just getting to be too much, check out Hedger’s
