The Black Demon features a hungry megalodon.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT A sequel to The Black Demon could be in the cards. The movie, which debuted on Prime Video on August 22, is a brand-new giant shark movie from Rambo: Last Blood director Adrian Grünberg that features an ensemble cast that includes Josh Lucas, Fernanda Urrejola, Julio Cesar Cedillo, and Omar Chaparro.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, The Black Demon is charting above other Amazon hits including Red, White, & Royal Blue and The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2. Producer Javier Chapa attributes some of their success to the fact that the movie, which was filmed in the Dominican Republic, features Latinx creators both in front of and behind the camera, serving a hungry Latinx audience.
Shark Movie Franchises Are Seemingly Unsinkable It’s hardly a surprise that The Black Demon is potentially getting a sequel, considering the historical track record for giant shark movies. Ever since Steven Spielberg’s great white shark thriller Jaws graced theaters in 1975 and more or less invented the summer blockbuster, giant sharks and other aquatic creatures have reigned supreme in cinemas. The shark subgenre seems especially able to launch movie franchises, no matter the budget level.
Jaws itself spawned three sequels, running until the release of 1987’s Jaws: The Revenge. However, many other shark movies have garnered their own franchises, including the big-budget blockbusters Deep Blue Sea and The Meg . However, small-screen or low-budget movies like Sharknado, 47 Meters Down, and now possibly The Black Demon have also received expanded franchises.Given this history, it seems entirely likely that a sequel to The Black Demon will be officially greenlit.
