Caledonia Secondary School Grade 11 student Ashton Forsyth competes at the 2023 BCSS ‘AAA’ Golf Provincial Championship in Nanoose Bay. “The boys had a great experience,” Lewis said. “The competition was very intense. It was an extremely challenging golf course.” Despite these challenges the team seized the opportunity, Lewis noted, to enjoy and appreciate the experience, especially given the effort it took to get to the provincial stage as a team from northern B.C.
As to the future, Lewis is unsure if the team will compete in the ‘AA’ or ‘AAA’ tier next year. “The tiering system is based on the number of enrolled students in the high school, not necessarily the quality of the athletes in the program itself,” he explained. Regardless, Lewis confirmed, “We will have a program and we will be attending provincials regardless.”
