Kids in the Know will be in 38 Newfoundland and Labrador schools this fall

When SaltWire visited advocate and child abuse survivor Bev Moore Davis at her St. John’s home on Thursday, she said she had a knot in her stomach. She was listening to the radio. The announcer talked about a 53-year-old St. John’s man who was arrested and charged with making child pornography, voyeurism and mischief.

Davis wants every child in this province to have access to a program that will increase their personal safety skills to reduce their risk of victimization. Kids in the Know is a national program designed by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection that uses age-appropriate lessons. In an emailed statement, the Department of Education said it “takes the issue of personal safety for students very serious and is active on this issue.”
