Hockey Hall of Fame needs to put an end to secret balloting after Alex Mogilny snub
There are 18 voters and, in order to get elected, a player, a coach, a builder, needs 14 yes votes. That’s 77.7% agreement. And almost every year, with social media growing, with sporting debate and anger a part of daily life, what seems to matter now isn’t who gets elected to the Hall, but who doesn’t.
Do we know that Mogilny was even nominated? Someone in the room has to speak on his behalf. Someone has to make his case the way Clarke made the case for Lindros. The screaming about the Hockey Hall of Fame since Wednesday calls into question the qualifications of the voters, though the panel itself individually is impressive. There are seven Hall of Fame players among the 18 voters — Mike Gartner, Ron Francis, Cammi Granato, Jari Kurri, Larionov, Luc Robitaille and Joe Sakic.
