Lt. Col. Arthur Cameron MacDonald C.E., D.S.O., M.E.I.C., would build a solid international reputation as one of the top civil engineers, soldiers and business executives in the world. MacDonald would graduate from the Royal Military College in 1885, and start his career immediately. He was appointed resident engineer for the East Georgia and Florida Railway and the next year he was engaged in building the water supply to the city of New York and assistant engineer Intercolonial Railway of Canada.
During the First World War. he obtained the rank of lieutenant colonel and chief engineer with the 11th Labor Battalion of the Royal Engineers and was in charge of the construction of military camps and also responsible for the Albanian Relief Expedition to evacuate the Serbians through Albania. For this service he was awarded the British Distinguished Service Award and the Serbian White Eagle medal. several medals of distinction.
