CUPE Local 486 members facing restrictions around picketing and obstruction

Following delay warnings and full stops from the city earlier in the week, the latest advice is for residents who were scheduled for a pickup this week to leave the garbage on the curb. Anyone whose collection was missed in the last weeks should put it out on their next regular collection day. “Unions have the right to strike and picket,” Mayor Donna Reardon stated. “But there are rules around how that is to be done, and illegally picketing to halt services not provided by Local 486 is unacceptable.”The union, which represents roughly 140 administrative and support staff, maintains it has “only conducted lawful strike activities.”
