Russia's men's national soccer team will not be allowed to play Poland in Thursday's World Cup qualifying game.
The decision to bar Russia from competing in the match came as Russia's latest request to freeze the FIFA ban was dismissed Friday in the Court of Arbitration for Sport, according to a report.The Russian Federation filed for an urgent interim ruling to lift the ban temporarily until a full appeal could take place.The dismissal of the action and Russia's inability to play against Poland likely means Russia will not be present at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the report noted.
Russia was in a pool with Poland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic, competing for a spot in the tournament for soccer's greatest prize.An attempt to freeze UEFA's ban on Russian teams from competing in European national and club competitions was refused Tuesday by the CAS, according to the report.
