The defence firm alleges the Crown corporation overseeing a $92\u002Dmillion deal found no wrongdoing in its audit, something Ottawa disputes.
“The auditors found absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing, either at Roshel or through their interview of Mr. Sestritsyn, and that is the reason CCC was comfortable giving Roshel the green light to resume normal production under the contract on April 12,” lawyer Asher Honickman said in an emailed statement Thursday.
Instead, Denovan Fortier insisted Friday that CCC’s investigation is still ongoing and that the Crown corporation “has not received audit findings.” “I will say that this matter is of concern to me because we need to ensure that we are fiscally prudent with the money of the Canadian taxpayer,” she added at the time.
Monday evening, CCC confirmed that it receives “periodic updates” from the auditors about their probe and “next steps,” but insisted that they are “still investigating.” Sestritsyn alleges that the company failed to pay him a $460,000 commission after helping broker the $92-million deal with Canada. He also claims that part of that money was instead “misappropriated” for “unlawful purposes,” namely to pay a former Ukrainian government official cash to push the Ukrainian government and military to favour Roshel’s equipment.
