Celebrating its 55th edition the Festival Western de Saint-Tite welcomes athletes and spectators from around the world and competitors describe it as a marquee event steeped in tradition.
The streets of Saint-Tite were packed with spectators looking to attend one of the first of several rodeo events taking place over the course of 10 days.B.J. Prince from Pontypool, Ont,. says some people underestimate Quebec's connection to western culture.
The competitor in the calf roping event has been attending the festival for over 12 years to celebrate "real American heritage.""The people and rodeo fans, I go all over and they're hard to find like this."Prince says Saint-Tite's "wild" atmosphere is often a surprise to athletes who come from Western Canada and the U.S.
The pony express event involves one competitor jumping off a horse halfway around the stadium as their teammate jumps on.
