'Reckless act': Unlicensed, speeding driver was drunk, Sidney RCMP say

On Feb. 11, around 9 p.m., a Sidney/North Saanich RCMP officer conducting speed enforcement on the Pat Bay Highway spotted a white sedan travelling “well in excess of the posted speed limited of 90 km/h,” according to Mounties.

Police say a “quick check” confirmed the vehicle was travelling more than 50 km/h over the limit, prompting the officer to pull the driver over. After interacting with the driver, the officer determined they were, in fact, impaired by alcohol. RCMP Cmdr. Wayne Conley calls it a “reckless act” that put the public at significant risk and could have ended in tragedy. He says it’s fortunate no one got hurt.

“This driver was not only driving well above the speed limit, but they were impaired as well. It was also determined that they did not hold a valid license, as it was revoked previously for driving while impaired,” added Conley in a news release.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.
