International Women’s Day is just over a week away but the Quinte Arts Council will be recognizing the day with a month long exhibit.Since 2020 Quinte Arts Council has dedicated the month of March to celebrate and elevate women artists.
QAC Executive Director Janet Jarrell says the exhibit has grown from six artists in 2020 to 21 this year.“The works, they range from celebrations of the female form, so sculputre, pieces about identity and stories of empowerment. Artists participating in the show range from a high school senior to established artists in the community.”
Jarrell says being a part of a global day to honour women is something they’re very proud to be a part of.“Equity means creating an inclusive community and so we had to reflect on how we can be a part of that solution. And, for the QAC with a beautiful public art gallery right in downtown Belleville, having a visual for International Women’s Day filled our mandate.”It runs until March 31.It is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m to 3 p.m.
