Toronto police are looking for a suspect in an alleged hate-motivated assault that took place last week on the TTC.
In a press release Wednesday, police said they received a call for a person with a knife at Wilson subway station at around 5 p.m. on March 9. Police said a man approached a woman taking the southbound subway from Vaughan Metropolitan Centre station.The woman ran from the train at the Wilson subway stop, police said.On Monday, the National Council of Canadian Muslimswhat they called “a brazen Islamophobic attack on a young Muslim woman.”
The tweet included an anonymous account from the alleged victim, who said the suspect asked her questions about her Muslim faith.“I’ve never been so afraid in my life. I hope the police find this man and take him into custody and get him some help so he doesn’t do this to any other Muslim woman again,” she said.
The press release described the suspect as a thin man in his fifties with a long white beard and wearing dark layered clothing including a black hoodie, black leather jacket, green pants and a green backpack.Police said its hate crime unit is investigating the incident.
