Turn it over to the federal government instead, in exchange for a plan that creates an imaginative, fun space for pedestrians and visitors.

In fact I believe our mayor, like way too many people in this town, is stuck in what new research calls “” You could call this car brain, or the irrational fear of losing car lanes that leads many of our fellows to think that if we close one street to cars we are in the handbasket-express straight to woke hell.If Wellington were the only street open to private motor vehicles in downtown Ottawa, that’d be one thing. But it’s not. We have other streets. They’re not even that far away, either.

I want the municipality negotiating the best deal for the people who call Ottawa home, not just their place of work. Turning Wellington Street into something that would make the Mall in Washington D.C. look like a pitiful tourist trap would certainly qualify as a deal worth making.Article content Imagine Wellington as a space designed for humans, with room for music and the arts and good eats and plenty of areas reserved for protesters of all stripes and something that is kid-friendly and accessible, with benches and playgrounds and clean public washrooms and easy public transportation so people don’t need to drive and clog downtown streets in search of affordable parking in order to access the most wonderful public space in North America.
