Every time one “looks under the sheets” of a Pennsylvania government entity, they find waste.
If the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission believes you failed to pay a toll-by-plate charge, they claim they will mail you a bill, but do they? They may send you a text to ask that you waste an hour navigating its website. But if you don’t pay, the fine is fifty bucks on a $12.00 toll.
It is crucial that you pay this money. The Turnpike only collects about $1.4 Billion dollars annually and if you can follow that trail of money leading to expenses for other purposes than to maintain the 80-year old highway, good luck. Some believe $6.6 Billion was siphoned-off to PennDOT or to pay non-turnpike expenses. It’s no wonder taxpayers seek avenues to escape the Commonwealth for more desirable economies and less corruption.
However, this whopping 76% penalty is desperately needed to compensate for the one million dollars allegedly stolen via fraudulent credit card information or EZ pass transponders. And, let us not forget to feed Senators and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Officials and employees who allegedly stole millions of dollars.
