ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A 59-year-old Paradise man has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars for drug crimes he committed while on parole for previous drug convictions.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers arrested Mulrooney May 17 and charged him with some of the offences after searching a Paradise home and seizing what they described at the time as 2.69 kilograms of cocaine and 933.5 grams of crack cocaine, valued at about $275,000. Police also seized about $163,000 and three vehicles — a Range Rover Velar, an Acura MDX and a Mercedes AMG sedan — along with items such as bear spray and weigh scales.

Fentanyl is an opioid painkiller Health Canada describes as 20 to 40 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine, with a high risk of accidental overdose by even a tiny amount.
