Along with raising the cap on supervisor salaries, it allows for boards to incentivize supervisors to attend meetings by attaching their pay to attendance.
Gov. Josh Shapiro signed a bill into law on Wednesday that allows for townships to raise the compensation for their elected supervisors by nearly 7%. File/Sean Simmers | [email protected]’s township supervisors can vote themselves a pay raise over the next five years under a law Gov. Josh Shapiro signed on Wednesday.allows for the salary of elected officials in the state’s nearly 1,500 second-class townships to rise for the first time since 1995 by nearly 7% next year.
By passing an ordinance, supervisors in townships with fewer than 5,000 residents can boost their annual pay up to a maximum of $3,145, up from the current cap of $1,875. Supervisors in townships with 35,000 residents can raise their pay to $8,385 that is now capped at $5,000. The law also allows for townships to pass an ordinance to shift to a per-meeting compensation arrangement based on meeting attendance. That would bar a paycheck from being issued to a supervisor absent from a meeting unless it is decided to be an excused absence.
