Officials in Guerrero state, where both Coyuca and Acapulco are located, said more than 3 feet of rain had fallen in the region between Sept. 23 when John made landfall to the east of Acapulco as a Category 3 hurricane, and Friday, when the rejuvenated Tropical Storm John came ashore again to the west of Coyuca.

Tropical Storm John causing severe flooding along Mexico's Pacific coastTropical Storm John has caused a total of eight deaths in southern Mexico. Five days of heavy rains have generated severe flooding and mudslides in the Pacific coast resort of Acapulco. John was lingering off the Pacific coast just short of a second landfall early Friday. It hit further east on the coast Monday as a Category 3 hurricane.
