One of Tom’s fondest memories is qualifying for the championship final of the Rangeland Derby in 1997 along with his son. “I actually won the Calgary Stampede outriding when I was 16 for Bill Greenwood, a friend of my dad’s,” Tom said. “I asked him if I could outride for him and he said, ‘No, you better get some more practice,’ so I went and asked his friend Bill Greenwood and he said, ‘Sure, you can ride kid’ and we ended up winning it . I got to flaunt that to my dad quite a bit. The next year, he let me ride.
