Optima's Overlanding Rivian R1T And R1S Come With Trailers That Recharge The EVs | Carscoops carscoops
and R1S are capable off-roaders, but recharging them in the middle of nowhere is an almost impossible task. Thankfully, Optima has come up with a solution in the form of rugged trailers that can recharge the vehicles as well as power various accessories.
In order to do this, the company equipped Turtleback trailers with a lithium-ion battery pack to transform them into Optima Power Stations. They feature a Level 2 charger as well as 12-, 110-, and 220-volt outlets for powering everything from computers to lights.from a 0% to 80% charge, although drivers shouldn’t fully drain their battery. Besides recharging the vehicles, the trailers can function as a base camp.
The Utility Turtle goes in a different direction as it transports two electric motorcycles and has room for overlanding gear. Both trailers also come equipped with BFGoodrich all-terrain tires and can be plugged in to recharge. Putting the trailers aside, the Rivians have an assortment of upgrades themselves. Key highlights include 20-inch Black Rhino Wheels that feature a bronze finish as well as 35-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires. They’re joined by auxiliary lights, Overland Ruff Rax modular racks, and roof/bed-mounted tents. They’ve also been equipped with Optima’s new OrangeTop HyperCore Lithium Quad 30 batteries.
