'No one can wait for more safety.' In the last 9 months, 5 people have been killed in Oakland freeways with a total of 144 highway shootings in the Bay Area just last year. Mayor Libby Schaaf has urged for surveillance cameras on highways, but that may take a few months until the state budget process allows them.
Families of Oakland freeway shooting victims are calling for action from elected officials to do something to stop the senseless violence on highways.
"There is nothing we can do other than to get cameras on the freeways that allow for 24-hour recording of anything that occurs on the freeway and outside of that we have to rely on traditional methods to solve crimes," said Wiley. Mayor Schaaf: That is certainly my desire. No one can wait for more safety and I'm also respecting the budgeting process. If we are going to see significant change they have to be part of the budget process."
