Trooper John Horton, a 15-year veteran of the State Highway Patrol in North Carolina, and a driver he had detained, Dusty Luke Beck, 26, were killed in the crash on Monday.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper John Horton was killed Monday when he was accidentally struck by a patrol car driven by his brother, James Horton. RUTHERFORD COUNTY, North Carolina — A state trooper was killed Monday night during a traffic stop when he was accidentally hit by a patrol car driven by his brother, who also is a state trooper.
Horton had detained Beck during a traffic stop just before 9 p.m. Monday, according to the news release. Trooper James Horton, John’s brother, lost control of his vehicle as he approached and collided with John Horton’s patrol car. The patrol car continued and hit John Horton and Beck.
