Republican incumbent Beth Van Duyne faces perennial Democratic candidate Jan McDowell for Texas’ 24th Congressional District seat.Van Duyne, 51, catapulted herself to Congress after more than a decade on the Irving City Council, including six years as mayor, and a stint as a regional administrator for the federal housing agency.
In an interview with us, Van Duyne highlighted her office’s 100% response rate to constituents, her efforts to connect them to jobs during the pandemic and more than $36 million in funds that she secured for her district. She’s competent and resourceful. But just like she caved to her worst instincts as mayor by stoking division, she did so again in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol in 2021 by objecting to the presidential election results from Pennsylvania.
