Nicolas Cage tells V.F. he's “going full blast” tonight for Halloween: “It’s really the actors holiday—the holiday that encourages transformation”
, Cage thought he could safely perform a “Purple Rain” tribute to Prince. After all, there was a “no videotaping” sign at the establishment. And karaoke-bar patrons implicitly understand the unspoken creed to respect and honor their fellow nonprofessional singing patrons who have elected to be vulnerable before them, strangers.
In the film, Cage faces off against both the serial killer and, in the early scene, the jaguar. But Cage wanted me to be clear on one point: Even though his character, Frank, takes a knife to the animal to maim him, drag him from his natural habitat, and cage him to sell to a zoo, Frank “has total respect for the power of the cat and will do anything to keep the cat alive.” Cage himself is very much a cat guy, so this clarification is an important one to make.
