New York will randomly select 3,000 people for antibody tests that will look for indications that their bodies have fought off the virus — a step officials say is essential for reopening the economy.

Cuomo noted that Germany — with a population of 83 million to New York's 19.5 million — used the same sample size for its antibody testing survey.

Cuomo said the"large-scale antibody testing will help determine the percentage of the population that is now immune to the virus.","Scientists do not know whether people with antibodies are definitively protected from the disease and, if so, for how long."they identified 163 people — more than 2% of the country's 7,829 patients — who tested positive for COVID-19 after making a full recovery. Those people are now back in isolation.

"Definitely do not become more comfortable in doing your job in taking care of COVID patients. It really would be more of a psychological benefit."
