Mike Drew: Nothing more enjoyable than a flurry of activity yyc
A whitetail doe and one of last year’s fawns in the falling snow near Priddis, Ab., on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.But to be honest, I didn’t shoot much for quite a while after that. I rolled through some lovely country around Millarville and west from there but I didn’t see much of anything that compelled me to stop and aim my lens.
Now this, I can work with. I rolled down the windows to let the warm air vacate the truck and propped my camera on the window ledge. Flakes blew into the truck and melted on my coat and face and stuck to the front of the lens. Focusing through the swirling mass was tough — and the flakes on the lens didn’t help — but man, it looked cool.
It didn’t last long, though. Barely 20 minutes after it started, it was done. Through my wide-angle lens, I could see the clouds breaking up overhead and though there were still a few flakes falling, there were hints of blue sky peeking through.Mike Drew/Postmedia I could still hear a few voices drifting toward me but for the most part, the only sounds were the chickadees and the soft hiss of the snow that had once again begun to fall.
But once the lens cooled down I was able to get a few pictures — and even a bit of video — of their pinhead-sized beauty.Article contentMike Drew/Postmedia
