Tire maker's investment comes with help of a recently enhanced provincial tax credit

Premier Tim Houston, Alexis Garcin, president and CEO of Michelin North America, Inc., and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau walks past rows and rows of tires to attend an expansion announcement at the Michelin plant in Bridgewater on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. - Tim KrochakMichelin is moving forward with a major expansion of its manufacturing facility in Bridgewater, creating more than 70 new jobs, as part of a new $300 million investment in its Canadian operations.

Michelin, one of Nova Scotia's largest employers, said it will modernize and expand its operation in Bridgewater, enabling the plant to produce in-demand tires for the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market that are more energy efficient with fewer greenhouse gas emissions, as well as larger-rim tires.

The electrification of key parts of the manufacturing process will also reduce carbon emissions at the plants. The Government of Canada, through the Strategic Innovation Fund, is also contributing up to $44.3 million in federal funding toward Michelin's expansion, pending a final agreement."Companies understand the excellence of Canada's workers and auto sector, and today's announcement is a testament to that,” Trudeau said in the release.

Andrew Mutch, president of Michelin North America Inc., said the company is excited to grow its operations in the country.
