Justin Haynes pleaded guilty to home invasions on Beaumont Street, where a man was stabbed, and Maunder's Lane, where an elderly couple was assaulted and robbedJustin Haynes in provincial court in St. John's on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022. Tara Bradbury • SaltWire NetworkST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Justin Haynes, one of two men charged with a pair of random home invasions in St.

“The offences themselves are very serious. They did not exhibit a high degree of planning, but there were violent attacks on vulnerable people and injuries were caused.” The sentence includes 5 ½ years for the home invasions and another 40 days for two assaults Haynes committed on his partner in separate incidents last year, one of them in the presence of their newborn baby. She called police and Haynes was arrested each time.

The court heard Haynes and Hurley took the woman’s keys and stole her car, zig-zagging across town to try to avoid police, ending up outside a home on Maunder’s Lane in the east end. Haynes told the RNC they picked it because it looked like an easy target, and had broken down the door to get inside, where an 88-year-old woman and her 90-year-old husband were watching TV.
