The Trudeau Liberals are pulling out all the stops to stop the PM\u0027s chief of staff from testifying. Why? What secrets do they want kept?
So why then, have the Liberals blocked every attempt to call Telford to testify on China’s interference in Canada’s elections?that before the 2019 election, CSIS “gave an urgent, classified briefing to senior aides from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office, warning them that one of their candidates was part of a Chinese foreign interference network.
The simplest answer for why the Liberals don’t want Telford to testify this time, as opposed to the other times when they didn’t put up a fuss, is also the most likely. They don’t want her to testify because they don’t want her spending two hours having to duck and weave, having to avoid lying or perjuring herself over what she says.
How would she explain the government’s lack of concrete action to stop election interference that supposedly helped the party and prime minister she serves? The NDP wasn’t originally in favour of calling Telford, opting to stand by the tradition that ministers, not staff, be called by committees.
