Driven by gas, shelter and food, inflation is on the rise again in Canada.
Rent was up in eight of ten provinces with just Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick not recording increases. Nova Scotia saw a 9.5% increase in rent while Newfoundland and Labrador jumped by 8.4%. Ontario saw a 6.9% increase, Alberta 6.5% and Manitoba 6.1%.
Food inflation was lower than the previous month with prices rising 6.9% on average at grocery stores compared to a year earlier as opposed to an 8.5% rise in July. That average price increase was much higher for some products — putting chicken in your cart would have cost you an extra 8.9% in August, coffee and tea an extra 9%, cereal products were up 9.8% and beef was up 11.9% compared to a year earlier.
