Google opposes C-18, which is their right, but rather than argue in favour of their position or changes to the legislation, they are trying to show that Google is more important than the unanimous wishes of all four parties in the House of Commons which voted to call on them to attend.Article content
I’ve always favoured a private sector negotiated solution between publishers, like the one I work for, and the tech giants at Facebook and Google to make sure each side is fairly compensated. Yet, it’s also been made clear by the actions of these companies around the world that they don’t negotiate, they don’t look to split the pot, unless forced to by governments.
